London Choral Competition 2027 - Sing for the Crown! - is now accepting applications. From today, choirs from every corner of the world can enter one of the great international choir competitions of 2027 and travel to the capital of classical music to compete from 14 to 17 July 2027.
Four days of choral celebration take place across three of London's most storied stages - the Royal College of Music, the Britten Theatre and The Actors' Church in Covent Garden - with competition hearings, masterclasses, meet-and-greets and a Gala Crowning Ceremony.
Choirs enter in six categories, so there is a stage for every ensemble. Categories A, B, C and E place no limits on age or vocal subdivision: mixed-voice and equal-voice choirs compete on exactly the same terms, and "equal voices" describes the vocal type (SSAA, TTBB and similar), not the gender of the singers.
Every performance is evaluated on a 100-point scale by an international jury across four criteria - intonation, sound quality, fidelity to the score and artistic impression. In Categories A, B and E at least two of the four pieces must be sung a cappella, so the panel hears the choir's true blend.
The road leads to the Grand Prix. First and second places in Categories A, B, C, D and E with at least 80.01 points qualify for the final round, where two pieces of no more than seven minutes decide who wins the London Choral Crown - awarded to the winning choir's conductor.
Applying takes three online steps: the initial application, registration with travel details once your choir is approved, and the final repertoire with sheet music. Places in each category are limited and applications are reviewed in the order they arrive, so early entries have the advantage.
Every applicant also receives the official competition booklet, with the full programme, venue guides and jury information. We look forward to hearing the finest choirs of 2027 under the London sky.
Six categories. One crown.
- Category A · Secular
- Choirs with a secular repertoire - a piece from the choir's homeland, a classical masterwork, an original work by a living composer and a free choice.
- Category B · Sacred
- Sacred choral music, from Renaissance polyphony and 19th-century masterworks to an original sacred composition by a living composer.
- Category C · Folk / Spiritual / Gospel
- Four pieces in a single genre - traditional folk, spiritual or contemporary gospel - with healthy contrast in tempo, mood and arrangement.
- Category D · Children's Choirs
- The stage for young singers, born no earlier than 1 January 2012 - a song from home, a classical piece, a contemporary work and an energetic free choice.
- Category E · Senior Choirs
- For senior choirs with an average age of 60 - a dedicated category that gives senior ensembles a real chance to reach the Grand Prix.
- Category F · Festival Participation
- Non-competing: four pieces of completely free choice with no a cappella requirement, and a diploma plus the jury's handwritten comments for every choir.
